This is a perfectly fresh update to a true, classic cocktail that has been popular since the 1800’s. It is also a great way that I have brought the elements of my own heritage to the table. My recipe is one that uses Bourbon, aka American Whiskey, and Averna from Caltanissetta, Italy in what feels like a very apropos blend. Even the oldest of Manhattan recipes call for it to be served in a “fancy cocktail glass,” so don’t skip on chilling your glass first and allowing your ice to dilute the spirits. Those few minutes of patience can be powerful, use them wisely.
all units: U.S. Imperial
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
4 Luxardo Cherries
In a cocktail mixing glass, pour the bourbon, Averna over ice and stir. Wait 1-2 minutes for the ice to dilute the spirits. Serve up in a chilled glass, with brandied cherries
